Little Colony Kids started as a dream of two young women, Agnes and Gertrude Van Baren, who wanted to give the public a place to shop for affordable and fashionable baby clothes and childrens clothing.  Agnes and Gertrude knew alot about children's clothing because they came from a family of 11 children.  In 1955, their dream became a reality.  Agnes and Gertrude succeeded in starting a business that has endured for 51 years.

In 1955, female owned businesses were a rarity.  Some people thought it peculiar that two young women wanted to start their own business.  Agnes and Gertrude were not deterred by public opinion. The Little Colony opened in the Roseland neighborhood on the south side of Chicago in August of 1955.   Agnes' and Gertrude's founding principals were to provide the customer with fashionable, high quality clothing  and outstanding customer service at an affordable price. 

Today the business has migrated to the South Chicago suburb of Homewood. The torch has been passed down to Agnes' daughters, Mary  and Susan.  Mary and Susan are proud to have worked for Little Colony Kids for more than 20 years. They are also proud to be  a minority owned business.   Mary and Susan are delighted to  offer their outstanding selection of baby clothes and children's clothing and merchandise as both retailers and e-tailers.  They welcome your feedback and would love to receive photos of your children in Little Colony Kids clothing to post on the website. customerservice@littlecolonykids.com
